Dear bOHP Subscribers,
Literacy is a significant social determinant of health! The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises shared reading as early as birth, and reading screenings for children ages three to four years old during their well-child visits. In doing so, providers will have the opportunity to alert parents of children’s reading deficiencies before beginning kindergarten (see link to 4 min video).
What does this have to do with bOHP? One of our favorite AAP initiatives that overlaps with oral health is- Brush, Book, Bed (BBB). In this brief, we would like to encourage you to continue to share this message with your families. One of the best ways to get at this information is by asking about "their bedtime routines". Below are copies of the BBB handouts that you can use for your younger and older patients (also found on under resources--> patient information). The message continues into adolescence! Try it out...
Have a great summer,
bOHP team
